An unassuming man spends the night following an alluring woman—only to learn she intends to consume more than his heart.
The story
On a summer night in Detroit, VIRGIL passes THE WITHERING MAN slumped outside a bar, roots growing around him. When Virgil inquires about the man’s condition, he offers a cryptic warning with three words:
“I met a lady.”
What follows is the Withering Man’s story. As a young man he was CEDRIC. Until he met AURORA—a radiant and unreadable woman, at the bar. She takes his attention, then his offerings, then his autonomy—leading him from the bar to his car to her house. There he eats her food, sleeps in her bed, and dreams of the men she's already consumed—an athlete, a politician, a pastor—each warning him as they deteriorate.
Cedric wakes alone, stripped bare and hollowed—the world already withering around him.
The film ends where it began, outside the bar. Virgil stuffs a few bills in the old man’s hand. The withering man watches as Virgil enters the bar. Inside, Aurora is there waiting.
And the cycle continues.

statement from director
The Woman Without Mercy comes from personal experience. Growing up in Detroit, I watched men fall to vice all my life — I've fallen into that cycle myself. This film draws from Sirens, a project I began developing in 2023 about young men consumed by the women they pursue, and from John Keats's La Belle Dame Sans Merci, a 19th century poem about a man's demise after following an ethereal woman to her grotto.
The cycle continues to consume our community, even amid institutional silence around naming it. I'm putting it on screen and trusting audiences to decide what comes next.
Because until someone does, the cycle will continue.
